How to start researching...
Having chosen your topic, the next step is to search the internet and you look for two things:
1) articles on respected websites (legitimate news sources and organizations) that will give you information about the issue you have chosen so you can learn about it.
2) organizations that work on your issue. Be sure to try different search terms, and include the name of your town. For example, if you live in Rockville, MD, and have chosen the topic of homelessness, you might search, "homeless shelters, Rockville, MD" or "homelessness in Rockville, MD" or "help for the homeless, Rockville, MD."
You might ask your parents, grandparents, and guardians for any organizations they know about, and any other adults in your life. Of course, if you know people already involved in the topic you've chosen, don't forget to reach out to them!
Make a list of 3-4 organizations or individuals that are working on the issue you chose to research. You might want to make a separate folder on your computer (or section in your notebook) for each. Then, do the following:
read through each website to get relevant information about the topic and how that particular organization is helping;
get names of people in the organization you might contact to interview for your project.
Once you gather this information, then you need to:
read the articles, take notes, and make sure you have all of the information you need for a complete Milton Wolf project;
decide who you might want to interview, what you want to ask them, and then reach out to them. Some people might be willing to speak with you on Zoom. Others might prefer to answer your questions in emails. You can ask them when you email or call.
